Lukashenko pointed out shortcomings in Bellegprom work

President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko has approved the appointment of Nadezhda Lazarevich, former First Deputy Chairperson of the Minsk City Executive Committee, to the post of Chairperson of the Belarusian State Concern for Production and Sale of Light Industry Goods (Bellegprom Concern). Her predecessor in this position, Tatiana Lugina, will head Kamvol JSC.

When considering the personnel issues, Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed out that the President Administration and the Government report on the difficult situation, which is developing within the concern ‘due to various reasons’. “I always feel suspicious about some information, but – in this case – I believe that the situation there is not so good,” the Head of State noted.

In particular, Aleksandr Lukashenko mentioned the activities of the Kamvol textile factory as one of the areas of the concern's work. The functioning of the Baranovichi Cotton Production Association, flax-processing and footwear-making enterprises is also in the spotlight.

The President hopes that Nadezhda Lazarevich will be able to mend the situation. “Take a chance, it’s actually a ministerial position. We still need to look at the reform of the management system, and maybe we should create a ministry without any of these concerns. If this is needed, then something can be added or removed somewhere. We’ll study this issue later,” he said.

The President recalled that he had personally visited Kamvol, “Serious support was provided then, and the enterprise had been rescued actually. It was necessary to save it as it had completely collapsed. We invested a lot of money.”

The Belarusian leader has visited a leather factory in Gatovo more than once. “We have agreed on the plan of action there. [Prime Minister Aleksandr] Turchin reported to me yesterday that the results there are not so good. We will focus on the issue in the near future,” he said.

The Head of State also announced the study of issues related to the development of the flax industry, [including] ‘linen fabrics production in Orsha’. “We will also look at the results of flax production in agriculture,” he added.

As for footwear-making enterprises, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted, “We should in no case neglect the issue of footwear production. It has always been our brand. Moreover, I was interested in how our main market, Russia, treats Belarusian goods. People do not even look at prices when they see that products were made in Belarus. So why aren’t we selling them? We all resent the fact that someone is importing something from somewhere. Well, it's a competition. We will have to live in the conditions of this competition.”
