Lukashenko: peoples of Belarus and Russia united in their goals

As Aleksandr Lukashenko was presenting awards to the representatives of science and technology today, he noted that their successes demonstrate that the peoples of Belarus and Russia are united in their goals, boast strong fraternal ties and are faithful to their common historical memory

“We also have common challenges that modern times pose to us – and we will respond to them jointly,” the President stressed. “You are the main fighters on this ideological front because ideas – that are not typical of our Slavic mentality and sometimes destructive for our spiritual development – are being exported to us from the outside, primarily with technology. Technology may be leading the way, but their ideas are at the back. The same is true in education.”

The Head of State said the sanctions imposed against our countries are a challenge but, according to him, there is no need to ‘yell, shout and cry’ about this, “It is a great chance for scientists – who should be at the forefront of this. You will be in demand more than ever since no politicians, no economy can do without you, without new technologies and ground-breaking things.”

As stated by the President, the situation is the same in other areas. Aleksandr Lukashenko said the exit of western companies from the market is a chance for development of our domestic market and our own technologies. With this in mind, the Head of State recalled his yesterday’s meeting with the Governor of the Penza Region.

“We found out that our products in Russia and your products in Belarus enjoy a great demand. If they decided to leave [the market], then it’s up to them. It is no need to be so much concerned about this. However, some time is needed for us to rebuild ourselves. We will not be able to do this without scientists, so please get involved,” the Head of State addressed those present. “We will expand our Union State projects, but we will make them more down-to-earth. Fundamental science has always been important, but we are now extremely in need of applied science.”
