Lukashenko on the need for talks to end the conflict: everything is now in Ukraine’s hands

Negotiations are needed to end the conflict in Ukraine, otherwise it threatens with the complete destruction of the country – as stated by the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, during his talk with Russian journalists on the sidelines of the CSTO summit in Yerevan, BelTA reports

“Everything is in the hands of Ukraine, and this is not because I want to push this topic to Zelenskyy or Ukraine. It’s true that everything is now in the hands of Ukraine,” the Belarusian leader said, answering the question whether the summit discussed the possibility of concluding a peace agreement with Ukraine. The President explained that this was mentioned in passing during the summit, because the situation in Ukraine was not the main topic on the agenda.

Meanwhile, the Belarusian Head of State is convinced that if Ukraine does not want people to die, and die in huge numbers, then the conflict must be stopped.

“It’s hard and difficult, but if they want it, they need to restore. It is necessary to stop this because further on there will be a complete destruction of Ukraine. This is not what Putin said long before the operation, that this would threaten the loss of Ukraine’s statehood. This will be the destruction of Ukraine. It is necessary to stop,” the President stressed.

Aleksandr Lukashenko is confident that over time, the relations between nations will definitely be restored, as has happened more than once in history, even after many years of difficult conflicts, including after WWII.

“How did we fight Nazi Germany? Thirty million people died. Who remembers this today? A little bit in Belarus and Russia, and that’s it? It means that the wounds have healed. We’re ready not just to talk – to co-operate and to be friends. The same is here. We’ll get through this, we’ll make it all right. We will probably be able to explain to the Ukrainian people what happened, maybe, even our generation will be able to do this,” he said.

“Therefore, wherever one looks, peace talks are everywhere. Peace, peace and once again peace,” the Belarusian leader stressed.
