Lukashenko on complete closure of borders by Poland, Lithuania and Latvia with Belarus: if they wish, they are free to do so

In his talk to journalists after today’s meeting at the Belarusian State University, President Aleksandr Lukashenko commented on the desire of Poland, Lithuania and Latvia to completely close their borders with Belarus

“I do not quite understand Lithuania and Latvia,” the Head of State noted. “Most likely, they are running ahead of the locomotive in the trend (so as not to get under it). They want to show off, but this will have side effects. If they want to close, so let them close! After all, we do not go to Lithuania or Latvia, and we do not work through them either. Whom will they make worse? They will only make it worse for themselves and their people. They are afraid that people will come to us. Their citizens have already become impoverished. As I said before, they took our firewood in winter, because they had to use makeshift stoves but had nothing to heat them with. We are not against! We will help them! We will help for free, if necessary – so that people can live through it. Citizens are being tormented there, but people there are strong and experienced – like we are. They will soon overthrow these leaders. You know that the Latvian Government recently resigned. Was it for no reason, do you think? Was it bad for them? No, they are ruining themselves.”

Answering the question, the Head of State also touched upon the topic of visa-free travels, noting that Belarus has recently been visited by about 800 thousand people thanks to this regime. “They see how we live! Meanwhile, there are already less than two million people left in Lithuania. In addition, just try to make everyone who has been here change their mind that Belarus is a peaceful, normal country, and that it has no claims against Lithuania, Latvia or Poland. We want to live on our own land. We do not need Polish, Lithuanian or Latvian territories. Meanwhile, they are demonstrating a political psychosis today on the eve of elections (especially in Poland), so they will escalate this situation,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.
