Lukashenko on 2024 elections: it will be the largest campaign over recent years
The upcoming elections in 2024 should be held under the new rules – as stated by Aleksandr Lukashenko at a meeting on the formation of the Belarusian People’s Congress and changes in electoral legislation
The President noted, “We must approach the updating of the Electoral Code systematically and competently. This is the most important legislative act, according to which electoral processes are carried out in the country: from nationwide referendums to rural councils.”
The Head of State’s main requirement is that everything in this document should be clear to both voters and members of election commissions.
“The need to change the code was brewing gradually, over several years. But now life itself makes us to speed up. We must hold the elections in 2024 according to the new rules. This will be the largest campaign over recent years,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.
He recalled that within a short time it is necessary to elect deputies at all levels, form the composition of the Council of the Republic, and nominate delegates to the People’s Assembly.
