Lukashenko: no need to hide anything in updated National Security Concept
The President of Belarus has held a working meeting with the State Secretary of the Security Council, Aleksandr Volfovich, today, and their conversation focused on the updated National Security Concept. The need for the document’s renewal is guided by growing geopolitical uncertainty and innovations enshrined in the Constitution following the results of the nationwide referendum held this February.
“The situation is changing, and you understand and know it better than me. What level are we at today when preparing a new edition of the National Security Concept? I would like to ask you to ensure that it is absolutely straightforward before we consider it at the Security Council. There is no need to hide anything based on some political motives or even economic ones, and so on. We must honestly outline the existing risks and threats, and our response to them – so that our neighbours and others know how we will react, so that they do not say that it was a surprise for someone. Do not hide anything! Everything must be done honestly. If we are with Russia, then we are with Russia. We have created a defensive space. We have actually common armed forces, and our army is at the forefront. A regional grouping is operating,” the Head of State addressed Mr. Volfovich.
The President urged not to make any fakes and extraordinary statements out of this, since the relevant agreements with Russia had been reached a long time ago. “We must clearly outline everything – so that everyone knows in advance, especially in our society, how we will defend ourselves and what action we will take,” he said.
As regards Russia's support, Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasised once again, “Russian troops should receive no blow in their back, from the side, from the flanks through Belarus. This will not happen. This is our obligation to our ally.”
