Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that being a leader does not mean simply to rule or ‘stand on head’, “To be a leader means to prove yourself and your authority, to ensure people follow you. If they fail to follow, then what kind of leader are you? Leadership needs to be won by some action.”

Moreover, the President believes a person should be born with qualities of a leader. “I have already voiced my opinion that presidents are not made, they are born. Therefore, the President and his qualities should be laid at birth,” he said.

At the same time, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that it is not enough to simply be born with qualities of a leader, “If you do not develop this quality through your actions in the course of your life, no one will follow you. No one will see the leadership qualities that are given to you at birth – at birth and, importantly, generated. To be a leader, you need to work hard – so that people who are nearby can say: ‘This is a real leader, we will follow him’. Therefore, you should stand out in all spheres – in studies, at work. You must be able to demonstrate, look at others, learn from the elders and bring this to boys and girls with whom you study.”

The Head of State also expressed confidence that the President should be a leader, “If he is not a leader, then he is a weak President.”
