Lukashenko laid flowers at mass grave from war times

The President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, laid flowers at a mass grave in the village of Khimy (Orsha District) not far from his small homeland on National Remembrance Day of the Victims of the Great Patriotic War and the Genocide of the Belarusian People, BelTA reports

In addition to the hallmark monuments and memorial complexes – that remind us of the war events, there are thousands of small graves and monuments in Belarus that should not be forgotten either.

In Khimy, eighteen villagers were buried, as well as tankers who died during the Great Patriotic War and whose names have not been established.

The President laid flowers and addressed Belarusians, “On this day, our Belarusians and others – residents of the post-Soviet republics – gather at iconic memorials and obelisks known all over the world, such as the Brest Fortress, Khatyn, and others, to honour the Soviet people’s mass heroism during the Great Patriotic War. That is right. It was especially in Belarus that a huge number of heroic deeds were committed by small groups of Soviet people, simply residents of Belarus. There were many individual feats, especially by pilots and tankers. Grateful residents have installed many thousands of such nameless monuments and the ones with names of small groups of people and persons all over Belarus. We must not forget about them. We must keep them clean and tidy, since they create the purity of our souls and hearts. On this day, I want to address Belarusians so that they pay special attention to these sacred places."

After that, Aleksandr Lukashenko paid a visit to his mother's grave.
