Lukashenko: it’s important to set red lines in our relations with US that are unacceptable for us to cross
In our relations with the United States, it is important to establish red lines that are unacceptable for us to cross, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasised at a meeting on the global international situation and the development of Belarusian-US relations, held on October 14th
The Head of State pointed out that currently, the United States of America and its allies, particularly the European Union, continue to impose sanctions on Belarus, “Yes, we have adapted to living under the pressure of these sanctions and continue to work, albeit with some difficulties. Anyway, these sanctions affect us and divert our attention from addressing many issues.”
Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed regret that the American administration continues to promote certain so-called pseudo-democratic values, “We can see that too. Although their statements suggest they have distanced themselves from this, the reality is quite different. Donald Trump and the State Department declared that they would stop funding various NGOs and other questionable activities. However, we recently discovered that this is not the case. The funding has been resumed. Ultimately, it’s their decision how to allocate their funds, and our role is to monitor our interests.”
According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, considering the recent advancements in interactions with Washington, it is necessary to develop a future strategy for Belarusian-US relations.
“At the same time, we need to clarify our priorities more distinctly. It is also important to set what are now commonly called red lines — boundaries that are unacceptable for us to cross.”
