Lukashenko invited President of Zimbabwe to visit Belarus
President of Zimbabwe Emmerson Mnangagwa has received an invitation from Belarus’ Head of State Aleksandr Lukashenko to pay an official visit to Belarus, BelTA reports with reference to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry’s press service
As reported, Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov held high-level talks in Zimbabwe on April 16th, and the parties signed documents strengthening the partnership between the two countries.
"The meeting with Zimbabwe's President Emmerson Mnangagwa became the central political event of the day. The delegation led by Belarus’ Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich discussed issues of bilateral co-operation with the Zimbabwean side. In particular, they focused on the implementation of the third phase of Zimbabwe’s agricultural mechanisation programme that involves the use of Belarusian machinery. A personal letter from President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko with an official invitation to visit the republic in May 2025 was handed over to Emmerson Mnangagwa, and the Zimbabwean leader gratefully accepted the offer, confirming his readiness for the visit," the source said.
The strategic nature of bilateral relations, the importance of co-ordination in countering external sanctions pressure, mutual support on international platforms, as well as warm personal contacts with the Belarusian leader were emphasised.
Emmerson Mnangagwa asked to convey his best wishes to Aleksandr Lukashenko and expressed confidence in the success of the upcoming meeting in Belarus.
"The talks with Zimbabwe's Foreign Minister Amon Murwira contributed to the strengthening of the political dialogue. The parties stressed the need to intensify the interstate co-operation in the face of global challenges, including countering illegal unilateral restrictive measures, as well as mutual support for initiatives on international platforms," the Foreign Ministry said.
Amon Murwira described Belarus not only as an ally, but also as a strategic partner. The parties agreed on the importance of intensifying joint efforts to co-ordinate new projects ahead of the visit of the President of Zimbabwe to Belarus.
