The President noted that he was pleased to pronounce the name of Chavez, “People in Belarus know very well and remember our friend – your brother. It's good that you, dear Adan, have arrived at this time. There is something to talk about. We have issues to discuss. I’d like to say right away that it's absolutely not about the sanctions imposed against Venezuela and Belarus. We have a strong and serious foundation for our co-operation established in the past…”

Aleksandr Lukashenko added that the two countries underuse the advantages created many years ago, “We have something to rely on so that to counteract any attacks on our states in modern conditions. We are determined to act in this direction. I think time has come to revise our relationship… We need to build up a plan to resume our intensive relations and implement it in the coming two-three years.”

In turn, Adan Chavez Frias thanked the President of Belarus for his warm welcome. “It’s always been a great honour for me to shake your hand and greet you. I want to thank you for the love and support which Belarusian people demonstrate in relation to Chavez. Be sure that this attitude and emotions are exactly the same that Venezuelans feel towards Belarusians,” he stressed.

The guest conveyed greetings to the Head of State from Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

Adan Chavez Frias came to Belarus on October 6th to stay here until October 10th. The programme of his visit includes a meeting with the Chairperson of the Council of the Republic, Natalya Kochanova, and the Chairman of the House of Representatives, Vladimir Andreichenko. The Venezuelan guest is also expected to deliver a lecture at the Belarusian State University and take part in a ceremony to open the Transatlantic Art Message exhibition at the National Library in Minsk.
