Lukashenko: in order to save ourselves and our land, we must remember both our own and others’ lessons of history

During an open lesson themed as Historical Memory – the Road to the Future, the President of Belarus noted that the current trends bode no good for the world

Aleksandr Lukashenko listed the main tendencies, “The first is the unprecedented use of sanctions as an instrument of big politics and economics. The second is the polarisation of society, the radicalisation and conflict nature of the entire global agenda. The world is in a fever of upheaval: from the US to Sri Lanka and Iraq. Over the past decade, the number of protests has increased while countries begin to collapse from inside. The third is a series of pandemics and natural disasters. The latest example is a catastrophic drought throughout Europe against the backdrop of an energy crisis and burning forests. The fourth trend refers to demographic challenges: migration and population aging. The fifth trend is connected with global militarisation, the growth of the nuclear threat, and escalation of tension. A very bad scenario for the future.”

In this regard, Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasised once again, “We, Belarusians, do not need a war. We have experienced too much in our long history. We’ve suffered enough. The limit of wars and revolutions has been exhausted. Our roots are in our peacefulness and kindness. But we are at the epicentre of the confrontation between the West and the East. In order to save ourselves, our land, we must remember both our own and other nations’ lessons of history, which teach the main thing: there is no sovereignty under external control. Meanwhile, without sovereignty there is no home, no family, no future. None of you.”

Addressing schoolchildren and students, Aleksandr Lukashenko said, “Despite your maturity and self-sufficiency, you still rely on us. The time is not easy, but next to you is a generation that has been tested for strength more than once. We haven’t let you down and we won’t do it. And you shouldn’t let us down, and most importantly – do not let yourself down in the future. Whatever happens, we will together protect and develop our democratic, sovereign, and economically strong state. Our Belarus is peace-loving, having not a single aggressive word or symbol in its coat of arms and anthem, but only historical memory of heroic victories for the glory of the Motherland. The memory that we are proud of, which is the road to the future for us, which fills our hearts with love for our native land.”

The President noted that our path is holy, and we will always adhere to the tolerance that was given to us by our ancestors, “We will always follow this course. If someone, inside or outside, with weapons in their hands, tries to break this course, we will respond, as it was quite recently.”
