Lukashenko: heads of local authorities are bosses in their territories

The heads of local authorities are bosses in their territories – as noted by President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko as he made personnel decisions, bearing in mind that such government officials have enough authority to perform the tasks assigned to them

The President advises new executives to primarily deal with personnel issues, “As usual, I really ask you to sort out the personnel you will be working with. You know the tasks that need to be completed today. You are also aware of my assessment of the work of chairs of district executive committees and heads of city administrations. You fall short of target for various reasons, sometimes beyond your control. Sometimes there’re not enough opportunities to manifest oneself and work more freely. However, this is not the case everywhere.”

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, he sees a huge scope of activity in Gomel, Vitebsk, and Mogilev regions.

“No one will interfere with anyone there. Therefore, God grant that there will be a result. Maybe somewhere in other regions, the governors hold more power in their hands and do not trust enough in some issues. Therefore, I immediately orient you and always say: you are bosses in your territories. You have to organise the process, and you have to observe all the processes, including human rights, as we do not have any ombudsmen. The President and you – my people at the local level – are dealing with human rights. We should not create unnecessary tension in society, but there should be no freedom in violation of the laws. Therefore, look at who you will be working with: from all your departments to deputies.”

At the same time, the Head of State recalled his constant requirement: everyone should be given a chance to show one’s worth. If someone is holding back the initiative locally, the President advised, “If you have any questions, which are not settled on the spot, which are especially hampered in the region, you have direct contact with the President Administration. Report immediately, let us know, we will help solve them.”
