A person can and must always resist evil, no matter how strong and sophisticated it may be – as stated by President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko at today’s wreath and flower laying ceremony at the Mound of Glory memorial complex

The President rightly stated that today – when Belarusians live in the peaceful and prosperous country – it is difficult to imagine the feelings of people in towns and villages ravaged by the enemy during the terrible war as they faced death every day.

“Nevertheless, they did not kneel down. They fought, survived, and won. The enemy perfectly well felt the strength of the people's anger of the partisan republic. The ground was burning under the invaders' feet… The whole country rose up to fight, and among them were old people and children, Red Army soldiers, partisans, and underground fighters. Many people went to the front as volunteers, and whole families went to the forests, not submitting to the enemy. For the sake of our freedom, they all stepped into immortality, sacrificing their lives,” the Head of State said.

It is in their honour and for the glory of their greatest feat that, according to the Slavic custom, a mound – which has become a symbol of the people’s courage, struggle for freedom and the indelible memory of grateful descendants – was built. The President emphasised, “It is very important that the example of our heroic ancestors shows that the future must be fought for. A person can and must always resist evil, no matter how strong and sophisticated this evil may be.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that the world is now at a sharp turning point, and no one knows what we will face tomorrow, “You see what is happening around us. The West has once again decided to burn all its debts and problems in a global conflagration – and simultaneously burn several million inhabitants of our planet. The task of all people of good will, and especially the youth, is to unite and stop the madmen – stop them for the sake of the future of all mankind.”
