“The Belarusian People’s Congress will include representatives of all population groups, and this is the key. As I have noticed, people in some labour teams are interested in how everything will be organised, questioning whether it [Congress] could be another meeting of officials, and how labour collectives will be represented there. There will be around ninety percent of representatives of labour collectives there. Meanwhile, the way to this Congress is somewhat different – not direct, when a plant’s gathering nominates a representative and sends him to the Belarusian People's Congress. It will feature deputies, representatives of parties and public organisations – all possible people, who are actually labour teams. The latter include teachers, workers, villagers, doctors, and so on. These must be professionals – rather than figureheads who simply come, listen to what is said, try to understand and leave away. There should not be such people there. [The Belarusian People’s Congress] should be represented by professionals, experienced people, with a high level of knowledge. They will have to make decisions on strategic directions, the most important issues of our state and public life. This is the responsible mission of our Congress,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.

The Head of State noted that everything must be done so that the Belarusian People’s Congress delegates, after returning to their workplaces, report to their colleagues on what issues were considered at the meeting. “We will do this in the best way," he stressed.

Aleksandr Lukashenko clarified: although the Congress will feature respected people among its members, it cannot interfere in the activities of other bodies, replace them or perform their functions.

“The Belarusian People's Congress should actually be preserved as a political institution, and not grow into a very important, but bureaucratic body,” the President stated.
