Lukashenko: economic plans must be aligned and balanced with budgetary ones
New state initiatives set to start in 2026 must be real plans for specific and tangible results — as stated by President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko at a meeting on draft planning documents for 2026 on October 16th
The Belarusian leader asked attendees at the meeting how well economic plans are aligned and balanced with budgetary ones, “The materials indicate that the Finance Ministry has developed a budget that, while not critical, is still in deficit. And we are facing serious national debt payments (2026 is one of the peak periods). Are there sources to cover them? Will all social obligations be fulfilled in full and on time?”
The President of Belarus also noted that new state initiatives will start next year. The Belarusian government has already drawn up a list, which will be considered individually. Most of them are social and economic initiatives funded from the budget.
“And what are the initiatives based on? How were their funding requirements determined? These must be real, practical plans for specific and effective results!” the Belarusian leader stated.
Some changes have been suggested in tax legislation and its administration. However, the participants of the meeting did not reach an agreement on the tax regulations. Aleksandr Lukashenko stated that this situation is unacceptable and requested a comprehensive report on these issues.
