Lukashenko doesn’t care whether West recognises election in Belarus
Speaking to journalists after voting at his polling station on January 26th, Head of State Aleksandr Lukashenko said he doesn’t care whether the West recognises the Presidential election in Belarus
“Whether you recognise the election or not is a matter of taste. I don’t care about it at all. The main thing for me is that Belarusians recognise the election and that the election ends as peacefully as it began. This is the most important aspect. And then it’s up to you. If you recognise it, we will respond and thank you. If you don’t recognise, well, you haven’t already. If tomorrow the United States made a statement or remained silent about our election, what would you do? If I made a statement now that I don’t recognise the US election and I don’t recognise Trump, would anything change in America? Or would anything change in the UK if I say that I don’t recognise Starmer [British PM]? What will happen in the UK? Nothing. In the same way, nothing will happen in our country.”
