Lukashenko directs not to get engaged into unnecessary construction projects
During today’s meeting reviewing the draft forecast documents for 2026, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko advised not to start unnecessary construction works, BelTA reports
The President noted that new government programmes will come into force next year. The Government has already compiled a list of them, and it will be reviewed later. "Most programmes are of a social and economic focus, and they envisage state financing. What are they based on? How was the need for resources determined? These should be realistic, practical plans for a specific and effective result," the Belarusian leader stressed.
"At the same time, I want to note that the Prime Minister has been instructed in no case to engage in the construction and creation of something that we can probably do without today and tomorrow – and I am sure he will fulfil this. I see office buildings, palaces, and whatsoever. [They say] these need to be built and so [include] into the programme,” the Head of State noted.
According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, there are other areas where funds should be allocated as a priority: i.e. the construction of modern livestock complexes.
"We have enough of these palaces and cultural objects. It is probably more important to build housing for people. You should not waste money that you do not have. It is necessary to assess the situation objectively and stop the construction of all kinds of museums, holiday houses and so on. We should use the existing ones,” the President noted. “We’ll build one museum, and it will combine the state affairs and charity. This one museum is enough [the talk was about the construction of a new building of the National History Museum in Minsk]. That’s enough! People will come and visit it, as there are already plenty of them [museums] countrywide. The same refers to other objects as well."
