Lukashenko congratulates Latvian people on Proclamation Day of the Republic of Latvia

The President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, has congratulated the people of Latvia on the Day of Proclamation of the Republic of Latvia – as reported in the Belarusian leader’s press service

“Dear friends, on behalf of all Belarusians, I send hearty congratulations to our brothers from neighbouring Latvia on the occasion of Independence Day. From time immemorial, the peoples of both countries have lived in the heart of Europe, preserving their uniqueness and originality. Today Belarus also remains a peace-loving state, a supporter of dialogue and common security in the region. We have never initiated a military conflict and have always treated our neighbours with friendliness and respect. Many of you were able to make sure of this by visiting our country under a visa-free regime,” the congratulatory message reads.

The Belarusian Head of State noted with regret that increasing numbers of Latvian residents feel that their politicians are not working for the benefit of their people and are looking to foreign advisers.

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, inflaming the situation, they brought forces and weapons to the Baltic States, built walls, and pushed the country to an economic disaster. Nevertheless, the Belarusian leader is confident that our centuries-old ties are the reliable foundation on which – despite all the difficulties – mutually beneficial friendly relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Latvia will be restored. “We will not be separated either by an artificial fence with barbed wire or by the criminal struggle of the interim Latvian leaders against state symbols, history and monuments of our ancestors!” the President underlined.

The Head of State wished the people of Latvia a peaceful sky, solidarity and the right choice.
