The Head of State noted that this year is special in bilateral co-operation and in the life of Belarusians as it is marked by a number of jubilees: the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Belarus and the Holy See, the 500th anniversary of the publication of the first prayer book in the Belarusian language, and the 1030th anniversary of the establishment of the first Christian diocese in Belarus.

The Belarusian leader believes the history of Minsk-Vatican interaction and activities of the Roman Catholic Church in Belarus vividly confirms that any issues can be solved and ties can be strengthened and expanded through dialogue, respect and trust.

"We recollect the past with pride and look into the future with hope," Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed. “Belarus shares your call to build brotherhood, respecting the culture and traditions of the peoples. I agree with you that the only legally existing barrier can only be a barrier against hatred and injustice, threats and imposition of someone else's will. I hope that we will personally discuss these and other topics in the near future."

The President wished Pope Francis health, longevity and God's mercy in fulfilling his high apostolic mission.
