Lukashenko congratulated officers, veterans and personnel on 80th anniversary of Western Operational Command’s formation

The Head of State, Aleksandr Lukashenko, congratulated officers, veterans and personnel of the Western Operational Command of the Armed Forces of Belarus on the 80th anniversary of formation of the Western Operational Command which is a successor of the famous 28th Red Banner Combined Arms Army – as reported by the Belarusian leader’s press service

"The soldiers of the command – formed in difficult days of the autumn of 1942 – showed mass heroism, making an invaluable contribution to the liberation of Belarus and Ukraine, and participating in the capture of Berlin and Prague. We cherish the memory of this heroic story, and the combat experience of our victorious grandfathers is in demand today more than ever. The tension near Belarus’ borders is constantly increasing, and the role of the Western Operational Command – as the main outpost on the western borders of our Motherland – is immeasurably growing in these conditions," the congratulatory message reads.

"I am convinced that you will honourably cope with all the tasks set to ensure the military security of the state and to protect the peace and peaceful labour of the Belarusian people," Aleksandr Lukashenko noted. “Thank you for your service. I wish all veterans, military and civilian personnel good health, happiness, prosperity and new successes in serving the Fatherland: the Republic of Belarus."
