On January 28th in Australian Melbourne, Aryna Sabalenka beat Kazakhstan representative Elena Rybakina (WTA: 25) in 2 hours and 29 minutes – 4:6, 6:3, 6:4 – thus winning the Australian Open. Having beaten Rybakina, Sabalenka brought her winning streak to eleven matches and, most importantly, did what she had never done before: she won the Grand Slam tournament title.

Earlier, Belarus’ first racket at this Australian Open defeated Tereza Martincová from the Czech Republic (WTA: 74) (6:1, 6:4), American Shelby Rogers (WTA: 51) (6:3, 6:1), Belgian Elise Mertens (WTA: 32) (6:2, 6:3), Swiss Belinda Bencic (WTA: 10) (7:5, 6:2), Croatian Donna Vekic (WTA: 64) (6:3, 6:2) and Magda Linette of Poland (WTA: 45) (7:6, 6:2).

“The President watched, rooted for her, worried, sometimes using swear words, but he predicted victory in the second and third sets. And, of course, he immediately congratulated!” wrote the Pul Pervogo Telegram channel.
