Lukashenko congratulated 188th Guards Engineering Brigade on 80th anniversary of its formation
The President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, has sent greetings to the servicemen, veterans and civilian personnel of the 188th Guards Engineering Brigade on the 80th anniversary of its formation – as reported in the Belarusian leader’s press service
The Head of State noted that the glorified unit – formed in the hardest days of 1942 near Tikhvin – received its baptism under fire during the breaking of the blockade of Leningrad. Its servicemen participated in the liberation of Novgorod, Orsha, Borisov and Minsk.
“The orders of Suvorov and Kutuzov on the brigade’s banner testify to the steadfastness, courage and valour of the generation of winners. Today, the guardsmen of the 188th Engineering Brigade continue with dignity the traditions of their heroic predecessors. Engineering units effectively perform the most important tasks both in the course of operational combat training and in ensuring the peaceful life of the country, participating in the construction of bridges and roads, demining and eliminating man-made emergencies,” the congratulatory message reads.
Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that over the past three years alone, the brigade had neutralised almost 700 deadly objects, including mines and shells of the Great Patriotic War.
The President thanked the personnel of the brigade for their service and expressed confidence that the servicemen would continue to sacredly honour the memory of the feat of the older generation, multiply heroic traditions, protect the peaceful labour of citizens and strengthen the country’s defence capability in every possible way.
