Lukashenko commented on speculation about Internet restrictions during election
Head of State Aleksandr Lukashenko commented on speculation about Internet restrictions during the Presidential election as he met with representatives of the MAZ and BELAVTOMAZ companies today, BelTA reports
Answering the question about the spread of blogging and other similar activities among young people, the Head of State commented on the speculation about the restrictions of the Internet access during the election.
The President said that everything related to blogging is a minor problem for Belarus. Many bloggers, for example, took part in the Marathon of Unity campaign, and they are often on the air of the state media. In this regard, the Head of State does not consider it necessary to take any prohibitive measures.
"It is not a problem to prohibit and rejoice, but bans are always not good. It is necessary to win, it is necessary to prove that we are the best. If people speak badly about us, then we need to show our good – as we are doing at the Marathon of Unity. It is harder, but more important – and it will be in the heart and in the mind of every person," Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.
At the same time, the President expressed his determination to take all necessary measures if it concerns the security and preservation of the country. “Actually, it is not necessary now, there is no such need. As I read, many people – especially our madmen who fled abroad – say: ‘Well, he [Lukashenko] wants to restrict the Internet access during the election’. I start calling the persons responsible for the issue, members of the Government with the question: ‘Guys, have you said anything of the kind thoughtlessly?’, and they respond: ‘No, we have no right’. I then ask them not to do anything of the kind without notifying me,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.
"We have never thought about it. If you want to go online, then you can do this. Moreover, 50 percent of the Internet – and maybe even more – bring benefit," the President added.
