Lukashenko commented on scandal with young Latvian journalists, promising to do everything for them
The Head of State answered a question on whether he would take part in the fate of the young Latvian journalists who, after an interview with him, faced pressure in their country
Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that he would do everything for these children and their families, “Let them come, they are good youngsters. We have place for all. [They are] future journalists, we will teach them.”
The President recalled that children from the Latvian academy approached him before a gala concert of the Slavianski Bazaar opening, asking him to answer a couple of questions. “There was a group of them, there were children. I thought that’s okay. They could quickly ask what they wanted. I then answered those questions on the go,” he said.
As a result, the youngsters began to be bullied. “Bullying! Here is the democracy. We will do everything for these children and for their families. Whatever they need, we will do. After all, they do not ask us for money, apartments, or housing,” the Head of State noted.
Belarusian citizenship is the only thing they ask for, wishing to obtain it as soon as possible. “We have actually no problems. Of course, we will protect these families and these children. Let them come. These are good children. We have place for all. They will work, these are future journalists. We will teach them and buy equipment. Let those who seem to have suffered because of us think well of us," the President said.
