Lukashenko: clear and understandable price regulation system should be applied starting from January 1st
At today’s meeting on pricing, President Aleksandr Lukashenko has set a task to introduce a clear and understandable system of price regulation and control starting from January 1st, 2024
The Head of State stressed that there was no populism in holding the meeting. The issues of pricing policy are under constant control of the Belarusian leader, and today’s event aimed to analyse the development and further improvement of the price regulation system.
“We need to look at how this process is developing,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted. “There is one goal, and I voiced this to the Government: no manufacturers, businessmen and others should run to the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade or the Government to co-ordinate prices. From January 1st, there should be a clear, understandable system. Concentrate on this problem in the Government again and distribute tasks for everyone – including inspectors, deputies and the Prime Minister. If my involvement is required, you are welcome. In any case, the problem must be resolved. We have seen this year that it can be solved.”
Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that inflation stands at 5-6 percent in 2023, “We agreed that it would be around 6 percent (no more than seven). It was actually 19 percent, and everyone said that it was impossible [to strictly regulate prices] as people would leave the sphere, and there will be no one to trade. We have people ready to trade. If someone does not want to live in Belarus decently, then the road is open – in both directions.”
