Lukashenko believes new law on parties will clear political environment from ‘random people’

Only those parties whose activities correspond to the basic principles of domestic and foreign policy should work in the political environment of the country. This is one of the key points accentuated by the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, during a meeting on bringing certain laws in line with the updated Constitution.

The Head of State noted that political parties are a significant institution for our society, reminding that the bill had already been considered, but was sent for revision, “Therefore, I want to hear about the main innovations. What changed? How will we orientate? It is also an important issue that can cause not only discussions in society, but also confrontation. I know this from my own experience, we went through all this in our society. That’s why everything must be regulated in advance in the law, brought to the attention of the people so that it does not resent party members and does not cause any turbulence in society.”

In this regard, the Head of State drew attention to a very important aspect, “The document must correspond to Belarusian realities and come from life itself. Yes, we need to see what is happening on the outer contour outside the country. But the main thing is our country, our experience. Only those parties whose activities correspond to the basic principles of domestic and foreign policy should work in the political environment of the country.”

The Belarusian leader clarifies: if a strategy for the country’s development is worked out at the Belarusian People’s Congress, where representatives of the parties will also take part, the political parties must adhere to it.

“What is wrong here? There is a course, which has been worked out – so, please, let’s follow it. The paths can be different, so the political parties have enough backlash to propose certain paths,” Alexander Lukashenko added.

The President also underlined that, “Loyalty to the country and acting in the interests of the citizens of Belarus is the duty of any party.”

The Head of State stressed that the political system will be developing, “I’m convinced there will be new public-spirited political parties. At the same time, ‘random people’ will be cleared. Of course, all changes will not happen at once. It will take time, but it is necessary to start now.”

The participants of the meeting will evaluate all the improvements and the degree of readiness of the discussed documents in order to make a decision on their submission to the House of Representatives.
