Lukashenko: Belarusian-Russian agency needed to co-ordinate work in microelectronics

Belarusian microelectronics enjoys a human resource potential, and all forces need to be concentrated now on solution of the strategic tasks – as stated today by the Head of State at a meeting on the state and development of microelectronics

“Certain steps have been taken, and – as I am informed – the leading structures with competencies have formed the Micro-, Opto- and Microwave Electronics cluster at Belarus’ National Academy of Sciences. A draft concept has been prepared focusing on the R&D work in the field of creating an export-oriented and import-substituting electronic component base in our country,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted, adding that the Government supports such an initiative.

Meanwhile, the Head of State urged not to be confined within national borders, “This will not produce the desired effect. We need to co-operate not only with those who welcome us with open arms – like in Russia and elsewhere, but also with those who are not waiting for us. We should liaise with Americans and Japanese – at least in order to see the highest level we are eager to achieve.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed: the work should necessarily be carried out in close co-operation with Russia. “We do not hide our interest in this regard, since [it is possible] to implement all the developments, scientific and experimental design elements we have only thanks to timely financing. President Putin and I have talked about this many times, and we have come to a common conclusion. In my presence, he instructed Deputy Prime Minister Borisov [Yuri Borisov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation] to deal with this issue. The door is open – so, please, let us work,” he said.

The Head of State noted that Russia is much interested in such work, “It is no need to convince anyone now that close co-operation is needed – as it was in the past, when energy, agricultural machinery production and manufacturing of automotive components were discussed.”

The President stated the need to create a permanently functioning Belarusian-Russian agency to co-ordinate joint activities. “Some hot-brains suggest that it is necessary to create a ministry, and so on. I want you to understand: establishment of another ministry – which will top our [existing] ministries – will not solve the problem. Therefore, we should rather think seriously of how to co-ordinate our work, and who will oversee it,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stated.
