Lukashenko: Belarusian peacefulness isn’t synonymous with self-sacrifice; in case of aggression, the response will be quick and tough

The new National Security Concept should be extremely frank, open and understandable. This task was set today by the President at a Security Council meeting. The Head of State drew attention to the fact that, unlike a number of countries, including the post-Soviet space, where such documents are classified, we do not hide anything.

“This is my fundamental requirement, you know this. We must directly and openly declare our priorities, show the world community the transparency of our policy, and Belarus’ reliability as a responsible partner. Meanwhile, at the same time, our partners should know that the Belarusian peacefulness is not a synonym for self-sacrifice. In case of any aggression, as I have said more than once, the response will be quick, tough and adequate,” the President underlined.

In this regard, Aleksandr Lukashenko asked if the new provisions of the concept reflect this ideological position of the Belarusians, who have long exhausted the limit of wars and revolutions.

“I draw the attention of those present once again: this document should be extremely frank, open and understandable. It is necessary to clearly identify what challenges we see for Belarus and how we plan to ensure our security,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.

The President asked if this problem was solved, how is the work on the public discussion of the concept going and was the scientific and expert community involved in its development or is it a cabinet document.

“I would like to emphasise that now the approval of the National Security Concept as one of the most important documents in the life of our country is one of the main powers of the Belarusian People’s Congress. Therefore, the developed document should be ready for the first convocation of its delegates already in a new constitutional status. That is, at the first meeting of the Belarusian People’s Congress, we will submit this document for discussion and approval. If the delegates of the Belarusian People’s Congress support it, it will come into force. In this regard, when considering this issue, it is necessary to discuss in detail all practical measures,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.
