Lukashenko: Belarus will be with Russia amidst any difficulties
Russia is Belarus’ reliable ally, and the Republic will always be with the Russian Federation amidst any problems and difficulties – as stated by Aleksandr Lukashenko during his today’s meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Pakistan to Belarus, Sajjad Haider Khan
In his talk with the Pakistani diplomat, the President also touched upon a Ukrainian issue. “You are also aware of everything that is happening in this region in connection with the conflict, including Russia and Ukraine. If you have any questions, I am ready to answer them, but you should know our principled position. Russia is our reliable ally, we have always been together with Russia and will be with it in any situation, despite any problems and difficulties. We advocate a peaceful settlement of this conflict. We do not support any war, and this is rooted in our genes,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.
The Head of State explained such an attitude of the Belarusian people to war issues is related to a grievous historical legacy. During the Great Patriotic War, Belarus lost a third of its population.
The President emphasised, “Therefore, the Belarusian people do not accept any war, any conflict and confrontation. Our current position is based on this: the issues that are somehow discussed on some international platforms cannot be discussed and decisions cannot be made without taking into account the interests of the Belarusian side. I think you listened to yesterday's statement of the President of Belarus at the Security Council meeting. We will continue to further adhere to this position.”
