"We need – it is very important to do this now, at the beginning of the year – to organise ourselves in a way to resist any economic pressure: either against us or against you. It is more difficult for us with these sanctions. Therefore, I would like to inform you on this issue," the President said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that it is the key now not to slow down the pace of co-operation gained last year, “As you have rightly said, the development of the economy already indicates that they [opponents in the world – BelTA’s remark] will fail. They will not be able to strangle us in any way. I think we will agree on giving more momentum regarding this issue.”

In general, the President stated that the economy was developing quite well in both Belarus and Russia last year, though inflationary challenges are definitely observed. “If it were not for these external factors, primarily inflationary ones that are being brought in from the outside… There is no getting away from them. I see that – in Russia and in Belarus – we are trying, as far as possible in market conditions, to counteract inflation. It takes some doing,” the Belarusian leader noted.
