Lukashenko: Belarus ready to play its role in achieving $1bn trade turnover with Uzbekistan

Belarus is ready to play its role in achieving $1bn trade turnover with Uzbekistan – as stated by the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, during today’s meeting with Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov

The Head of State warmly greeted the guest, thanked him for the hospitality during the President of Belarus’ visit to Uzbekistan and asked to convey his best wishes and gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

“At that time, we set ourselves ambitious plans to increase our bilateral trade to $1bn. I think we don’t have time to retreat anywhere, and we don’t need this. We’re ready to fulfil and play our role. I hope that Uzbekistan will also make every effort to achieve this goal,” Aleksandr Lukashenko recalled the agreements reached.

Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed special gratitude to Uzbekistan for supporting Belarus’ accession to the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation (SCO). The internal state procedures necessary for this have been already completed in Uzbekistan.

“I hope that we will become, as it should be, full member of this organisation; it will be ours, too. Therefore, I’m very grateful to you,” noted the President.

The Head of State asked Bakhtiyor Saidov to pay special attention to the issues of establishing joint ventures, which was agreed upon earlier, “During my visit we talked about BELAZ and other similar enterprises, so let’s work substantively in this direction. We’re interested in this, we have something to offer Uzbekistan, we discussed this a lot, and if you want to see some of our enterprises while being here, in Belarus, you are welcome. We will arrange your visit to any Belarusian company at any time so that you can ensure that its goods are acceptable for use in Uzbekistan.”

“I want you to understand: Belarus has always been friendly and brotherly towards Uzbekistan and the Uzbek people. You can rest assured that this will always be so. I often say that we are very similar in our hard work, patriotism and attitude towards our state. Therefore, let’s implement the agreements that we reached in Tashkent,” Aleksandr Lukashenko addressed his guest.
