Lukashenko: Belarus ready to help Zimbabwe implement several humanitarian projects

The Belarusian Head of State has met today with the wife of the President of Zimbabwe, Auxillia Mnangagwa, who is on a visit to Belarus in accordance with the agreements reached between the two countries’ leaders during Aleksandr Lukashenko’s state visit to Harare. The focus of the First Lady of Zimbabwe is healthcare, medical science, maternal and child health.

Addressing the honoured guest, Aleksandr Lukashenko said, “I’m fulfilling the request of my friend President Emmerson that the technologies that you need in Zimbabwe today should be there. We’re ready to help you implement several projects at the request of your side, at the request of your President, for the construction of high-tech enterprises, primarily in the humanitarian sphere. I was asked by the Zimbabwean President to help create in Zimbabwe a system similar to the Belarusian system for obstetrics, assistance to children, especially newborns, and to solve the problem of baby food. In a word, women and children are the priority of priorities, as Emmerson told me more than once during my visit to your country.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko also told how the President of Zimbabwe promised him that a very responsible person would be in charge of the implementation of these programmes, “Frankly speaking, I asked him that to be you. All you asked for was prepared; the doors were open everywhere. So choose, decide, and we’ll start acting.”

The Belarusian leader also said that Emmerson Mnangagwa asked him to hold talks in the UAE and Russia on the implementation of joint projects in Zimbabwe. Aleksandr Lukashenko fulfilled this request and said the following about the results of these negotiations, “None of the directions were denied. These two countries, which he spoke about, are extremely interested to liaise with African states and, above all, with Zimbabwe. You must understand: we have enough technology. Everything else you have. The main thing now is desire and speed. All this must be done quickly.”
