In particular, the Belarusian leader highlighted prospects for co-operation in pharmaceuticals. The first contracts to supply Belarusian medicines to Oman are signed and currently undergoing certification.
“We are open to any initiatives from the Omani side and would be glad to make our own contribution to your ambitious strategic plan to develop the country — Oman Vision 2040,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stated.
After assuming power in 2020, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said followed the policy of his predecessor, Sultan Qaboos. Oman Vision 2040, a strategic plan to comprehensively develop the country, was designed and put into effect in January 2021. Based on the document, Oman pursues five-year plans and other national sectoral strategies. The priorities identified are education, healthcare, welfare and social protection, as well as economic diversification and financial stability, labour market and employment, private sector, investment and international co-operation, natural resources and environmental protection.
For instance, Oman’s economy is planned to achieve annual GDP growth of 5 percent by 2040 (with the non-oil sector accounting for 90 percent of GDP). The healthcare sector is planned to expand the number of medical specialisations and specialised institutions for training medical personnel, and to introduce advanced international practices in medical centres and laboratories. Oman intends to enter the top 20 countries in terms of prosperity and health. In education, Oman has introduced an accreditation system for universities and educational curricula, and is building 69 new schools.
