Lukashenko: Belarus is mechanical-engineering country, so we need to produce our own

After inspecting the modern manufacturing of gear pumps, parts and components for diesel engines and agricultural machinery, Aleksandr Lukashenko gave a positive assessment of what he saw and emphasised, “I have always been thinking of touring the Minsk Motor Plant to see what progress they’ve made. We need prospects. We will develop the Minsk Motor Plant. It's not right — we are a mechanical-engineering country, we make all kinds of vehicles, from regular cars to BELAZ trucks. Yet sometimes we have to look all over the world for the engines. We need to make our own. We need to cling to those who have the technology and develop our own.”

The Belarusian leader was introduced to a range of products manufactured using components from the Zhitkovichi engine works. These include engines, diesel generators, compressor equipment and pumping units, as well as motorcycle engine MotoVeloZavod in Minsk uses. Currently, work is underway to cast all aluminium parts exclusively in Belarus and to produce domestically-manufactured engines in general.

While in Zhitkovichi, the President once again touched upon the tasks of restoring order and developing agriculture, which are particularly relevant for the Gomel Region, “We need to improve production, especially in agriculture. We have everything in terms of agriculture — and the products will be in demand. People around the world will need to be fed. And they [many countries] today are ready to pay, to give their last just to feed their people. Therefore, we cannot lose this.”
