“If the Gomel Region reached at least the level of last year, then the country would fulfil its agricultural task (as you know: 104 percent growth),” the Head of State noted. “Do you hope that in November-December there will be an increase across all indicators? Or will other regions be working hard for you? Because of this approach, the Gomel Region agro-industry’s lost profits totalled about Br100m: a lot of money.”

Moreover, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that the disastrous situation in the agro-industrial complex of the Gomel Region has developed not only this year, “Over the past five years, agricultural production in the region has decreased by over 13 percent while the country as a whole has ensured a growth of 4 percent. I know all the excuses in advance: weather, drought, rains, low soil intensity, sands, winds, some other reason... I want to say that you are not the only one blaming these circumstances. They are talked about everywhere. However, not everywhere we see such a result, or rather, its absence, as in the Gomel Region. Do you in the Gomel Region take into account the local characteristics of soil composition, do you know how to adapt to climatic conditions? How quickly are decisions made on the transition to the optimal structure of sown areas? This is another topic of today’s conversation.”
