Lukashenko appreciated MAZ public transport: it’s source of pride
Money should be invested in those areas where we can do something and get income from it, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko noted during today’s meeting with MAZ and BELAVTOMAZ employees
The Head of State particularly noted that the decision to build a new plant was made due to the high demand for MAZ buses, “You deserve to have your own bus factory. We built it in a year and a half. This year we will produce and sell 2,300 buses. That’s a good figure. We will produce and sell a total of 15,000 trucks – not bad either. Add 2,000 units every year, and then not only you, but also your children will have no problems with work and employment.”
According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, the preservation of our giants was his main task.
“As a young President, I promised myself that I should preserve all that had been built up by previous generations before us. Frankly speaking, when I see a MAZ vehicle, a bus, or a trolleybus, it’s a source of pride. I’m happy that we have kept our country as a machine building state. Today we have one question: how do we move forward? You may have seen my strict meeting on the investment programme. That is, where should we invest money? Why are we making this up? We see that you have a good trend in the production of buses, so you need a factory which was built in a year and a half. And tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, figuratively speaking, people should work here,” the Head of State emphasised.
The President pointed out that whatever the market economy is, there will always be a need for passenger vehicles. The same applies to lifts, which are in high demand today, and our factory is loaded to capacity.
“In other words, we can do everything,” Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasised. “A certain discipline is needed to ensure quality. And we need to save money. Returning to the investment programme, I thought that there was no need to make up anything. Let’s do what we already know how to do at some level. If you have a certain base, it is easier to rise to heights. We have to go deeper, we have to improve what we know how to do, and we have to invest in it.”
The President noted that specialists in Belarus can produce any kind of equipment, including spacecraft and an atomic bomb. It’s just a matter of time and money. And one more important point: does Belarus need these products? Our country does not launch rockets into space, but Russians are helping with weapons, including nuclear ones.
“We need to do something for people. In other words, we need to invest money where we know how to do something and get a good income from it... Based on the experience of our work with you, we are slowly building our economy, standing on the shoulders of those generations, our giants. There should be no withdrawal symptoms! Everything grows out of something. Maybe something needs to be broken, as we broke the old farms. But tomorrow there should be the most modern dairy complex [in their place]. We’ll move slowly. But what does it take? I’ll say it once again: each of us has to do our own job. You do what you have to do at your workplace, and I do what I have to do at mine. If we do, and not just do, but cope with this work, we will live normally, without war,” the Head of State concluded.
