Lukashenko: all prisoner exchanges between Russia and Ukraine go through me

In an interview with VGTRK (All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company) journalist Olga Skabeeva, Belarus’ Head of State Aleksandr Lukashenko said all prisoners of war exchanged between Russia and Ukraine, have been exchanged through him

Answering Ms. Skabeeva’s question regarding conditions for the end of the hostilities and the recent frontline push, Aleksandr Lukashenko said the Russian advances have been significant.

“Just as the Ukrainian military went into the Kursk Region, we had a meeting with the Russian President, and I told him right away, they were madmen. I shared my opinion with President Putin, and he agreed with me. That was a terrible mistake by the Ukrainian command. So they went in. It was unpleasant, yes, nothing good about it, but that’s temporary. As of now, Ukrainians have buried 25,000 there. All that’s left are the dead and the crippled,” he explained.

The President emphasised, “It’s often said that the United Arab Emirates oversee prisoner exchanges. All those exchanges happen through me. They take place in Belarus. I’m happy the military, maybe even Zelensky personally, are aware of this, and that the Russian leadership trusts us. We have set up the conditions for them to enter our territory, and exchange their dead, or their prisoners. Recently, 75 prisoners were exchanged. That happens regularly, and both parties are happy. That’s not easy to achieve. We know what’s happening there, and we maintain those relationships.”
