Lukashenko addressed peoples of Belarus, Russia on occasion of 25th anniversary of Union State Treaty

The Chairman of the Supreme State Council of the Union State, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko, has sent an address to the peoples of Belarus and Russia on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Union State Treaty, sb.by reports with reference to the Belarusian leader’s press service

In his message, the Head of State cordially congratulated both peoples on the 25th anniversary of the Union State Treaty, “Exactly a quarter of a century ago, on December 8th, 1999, we opened a new horizon in our relations, and that fateful decision – without exaggeration – enabled the two fraternal peoples to overcome destructive centrifugal tendencies in the economy and social sphere and move on to building a common Union State home on the solid basis of historical, spiritual and cultural community, based on respect for the sovereignty and national identity of the two states. Therefore, it is natural that the union of Belarus and Russia has received broad support from our peoples.”

As noted by Aleksandr Lukashenko, it is now possible to say with confidence that the Union State project has been realised, and it vividly demonstrates the success of this unique interstate association.

“A lot has been done in two and a half decades. We have multiplied integration ties many times in a wide range of areas. We have implemented a number of innovative projects in various sectors of the national economy. We are jointly exploring space, developing high technologies and nuclear energy,” the President noted. “Citizens of Belarus and Russia enjoy equal access to education, healthcare, the social security system, the unrestricted right to employment, free movement and choice of place of residence.”

The Head of State added that, in the difficult conditions of the past period, both countries have repeatedly been able to see how important the opportunities that such integration provides them are, how valuable the mutual support is.

“I am convinced that – on uniting our efforts – we will overcome all difficulties, confirming the correctness of the course chosen 25 years ago to unite and jointly develop Belarus and Russia within the framework of the Union State in the name of our peoples,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed. “I sincerely wish you good health, prosperity, peace, unity and confidence in the future.”
