Lebedev: international tourism actively developing within CIS

International tourism has been actively developing in the CIS countries – as stated by CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev on the sidelines of the recent meeting of the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives of the Member States of the Commonwealth to the Statutory and Other Bodies of the Commonwealth, sb.by reports

“Many tourist routes run not through just one Commonwealth republic, but a number of them – offering visits to the historical sites in different countries in a row. Many forums in the field of tourism, especially in Central Asia, are currently being held, and we are extremely interested in this since it's important, given that many countries are closed to us and trips there are challengeable both in terms of logistics and prices,” Mr. Lebedev said.

According to the CIS Secretary General, there are a lot of places in the CIS that deserve to be visited. “Tourist facilities in all CIS countries are now in good condition, new hotel complexes have been created, and transport routes have been improved. Therefore, there is a great opportunity to spend a great time in the Commonwealth countries and explore the sights at affordable prices,” he noted.

The meeting participants also discussed the preparation and holding of the 31st Minsk International Film Festival Listapad and other significant cultural events scheduled to be held in Belarus. Mr. Lebedev stressed that Listapad is a very important event in which all CIS countries usually participate, and many of their films receive high awards. “Of course, it is important for the CIS Executive Committee that we also participate in the preparation of this event. The Deputy Culture Minister has reported on the preparation process already,” he said. “The CIS Executive Committee, in turn, traditionally participates in the festival with its special prize awarded to films from the CIS countries. Last year, a film from Belarus was awarded, and films from Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan received the prize in 2023. Therefore, we are extremely interested in the high-quality preparation of this film festival and its holding.”
