Leading national and global media showing unprecedentedly high interest in Presidential election in Belarus
The leading national and world media are showing an unprecedentedly high interest in the Presidential election in Belarus – as noted by Andrei Kuntsevich, the Head of the CEC Information Centre and First Deputy Information Minister, BelTA reports
“Belarus’ Information Ministry has completed accepting applications for the accreditation of journalists to work at the Information Centre of the Central Election Commission (CEC), which will be held in the Small Hall of the Palace of the Republic from January 24th-27th. Judging by the number of applications, we can talk about an unprecedentedly high interest of the leading national and world media in the Presidential election in Belarus. About 300 journalists from more than five dozen foreign media outlets expressed their desire to get the opportunity to work at the CEC Information Centre. Applications for accreditation of 490 representatives of 26 Belarusian media outlets have also been submitted. All this together almost doubles the number of journalists who worked at the Information Centre during the previous Presidential election campaign,” Mr. Kuntsevich emphasised.
According to him, for the first time, the Information Ministry received a request for access to the CEC Information Centre from representatives of regional media and blogosphere. “Currently, all received applications are being processed. This process will be completed by January 22nd,” the First Deputy Information Minister stressed.
“On election day, the CEC Information Centre will become a centre of attraction not only for journalists, but also for representatives of the expert community,” Mr. Kuntsevich said. “About 80 leading Belarusian experts in various fields are planning to work on the margins of the Information Centre. In addition, the organisers will for the first time provide an opportunity for BSU Journalism Faculty students to work at the Information Centre as media volunteers and gain practical experience.”
