Lavrov: Ukraine was preparing the seizure of DPR and LPR with monstrous bloodshed

Ukraine, having failed to implement the Minsk agreements, was preparing to seize the lost territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR) with monstrous bloodshed – as stated today by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with RT TV channel, TASS reports

“They [Ukraine], having failed to implement the Minsk agreements, prepared a ‘plan B’: to seize the lost territories with monstrous bloodshed, with an escalation of what they have been doing with the civilian population for eight years,” said the Minister.

Lavrov drew attention to the fact that the Russian military, jointly with the forces of the DPR and LPR, discovered documents from the General Staff of Ukraine, which say that Kiev was preparing a full-scale attack on Donbass republics.

“The operation that was launched by Russia actually averted this threat and did not allow them to realise their intentions,” underlined the Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Sergei Lavrov said that relations between Russia and Ukraine and their peoples will be gradually returning to normal after the settlement.

“We share common culture, history, approach to life, worldview, traditions in families and society. I hope that when this anomalous situation is over, everything will gradually return to its previous course. But it will all be gradual, it cannot be fast,” he said.

On February 24th, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in response to the appeal of the leaders of the Donbass republics for help. He stressed that Moscow’s plans do not include the occupation of Ukrainian territories, the goal is to demilitarise and denazify the country.
