Lavrov: SCO consensus achieved regarding Belarus' full accession

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov informed that a certain consensus had been achieved within the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation regarding Belarus' accession as a full member, TASS reports

Following a meeting of the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers, Mr. Lavrov said, “I would like to emphasise that there is a consensus on Belarus to begin its accession as a full member.”

Belarus has officially applied to join the SCO. At the moment, Minsk has observer status in the organisation.

The Russian Foreign Minister recalled that, in 2021, Iran received the official status of a candidate for SCO membership, and the process of this country's accession has already begun.
