Kovalchuk: competition with Russian athletes in many sports is higher than in European arena
The decision on the participation of Belarusian athletes in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris without national symbols has not yet been made. However, our athletes do not intend to relax and in any case will train and prepare for any competitions – as noted by Sports and Tourism Minister Sergei Kovalchuk after his report to the President
In particular, he recalled that at the moment Belarusian athletes participate in various world tournaments across six sports (tennis, football, checkers, chess, sambo and boxing) without national symbols.
“Believe me, we cannot say that the competitive practice that our athletes have today is insufficient,” the Minister added. “The competition with the athletes of the Russian Federation in many sports is much higher than that in the European arena. Our task is to train and be ready at any moment to worthily represent our country at any competitions, raising the flag of our country high.”
