Kochanova: people should have jobs and get paid

Topical issues of regional development, as well as the tasks set by the Head of State to local authorities, were discussed at a meeting of the Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly, Natalya Kochanova, with deputies and heads of the Minsk Region

“When summing up the results of 2022, the main development tasks – that our country and leaders at all levels face – are clearly visible,” Ms. Kochanova said. “The key guidelines were outlined at the 6th Belarusian People’s Congress. In 2022, the President instructed us to work no worse than in previous years, and we can observe now that the economy of Belarus – despite an unprecedented sanctions pressure – is functioning well. Enterprises and organisations work, salaries are paid, social programmes and national projects are implemented in full.”

Ms. Kochanova added that pensions were increased three times last year, and salaries were also growing. Meanwhile, the President has set a task to increase wages for employees of state-funded organisations in 2023.

“At a recent meeting with the Head of State, when integration processes in the Union State were discussed, Aleksandr Lukashenko once again stressed that the economy is the basis for everything. With this in mind, we should primarily pay attention to the work of our enterprises, organisations, and institutions. People should have jobs and be paid salaries,” Ms. Kochanova noted.

She also reminded of the President’s instruction combining prices, employment and salaries. According to Ms. Kochanova, there is virtually no problem with employment at present. “Moreover, we have reached a positive balance for the first time. Our exports of goods have increased, and we have tried to occupy the vacant niches. Moreover, the situation is the same in almost all regions of the country. We have not yet reached the required investment figures, but the necessary aspects are functioning quite effectively. All these issues are under the President’s control,” she said.

Taking the opportunity, Ms. Kochanova also handed a congratulatory address from the Council of the Republic on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the Minsk Region over to the Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, Aleksandr Turchin, which read, “Many generations of the Minsk Region’s residents, talented, energetic and enterprising people who truly love their small homeland, are proud of its history, traditions and modern successes, who multiply the wealth of their land with full dedication, honest and conscientious work are the most important achievement of the region’.

“I wish you new achievements and victories. May the Minsk Region always be among the leaders. May peace, prosperity and opportunities for further development reign in the country,” Ms. Kochanova concluded.
