Kochanova in Baku: heads of Belarus and Azerbaijan established good relations for benefit of two countries and peoples
The Belarusian parliamentary delegation led by the Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly, Natalya Kochanova, is holding meetings in the Republic of Azerbaijan as part of her official visit
The Chairperson of the Council of the Republic has met today with Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova. During their conversation, Ms. Kochanova noted the high level of Belarusian-Azerbaijani relations. “First of all, this is the merit of our leaders, presidents of our countries: highly respected Aleksandr Lukashenko and highly respected Ilham Aliyev. They have developed good relations, which today are primarily aimed at the benefit of our countries and our peoples,” she emphasised. “Aleksandr Grigorievich always talks about Ilham Heydarovich as a friend. When the Belarusian leader visited your wonderful country, he said that we have no closed topics for communication, for solving problems for the benefit of our peoples. I am sending you greetings from all Belarusian people and from your colleagues.”
Vadim Ipatov, the Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, is also visiting Azerbaijan as part of the Belarusian parliamentary delegation.
The participation in a sitting of the Executive Council of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) and the 15th plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly – The Role of Parliamentary Diplomacy in Strengthening Multilateral Co-operation in Asia – are expected to become the key events of the visit. The issue of granting the National Assembly of Belarus observer status in APA will be considered at the meetings.
The Asian Parliamentary Assembly was established in 2006 to co-ordinate the efforts of national parliaments in solving urgent problems of our time, including by increasing the parliamentary role in ensuring peace in Asia. The Assembly acts as an instrument of inter-parliamentary dialogue in the region, and its activities are aimed at developing a collective strategy to ensure security and stability in Asia. APA consists of 43 member parliaments and 32 observers.
