Kochanova: if the President had not stood up for his country in 2020, it is not known how we would live now

This was stated by Natalya Kochanova, the Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, during a meeting with working and studying youth of the Belarusian capital

The event has taken place at Minsk’s State Palace of Children and Youth, arousing a very lively and sincere conversation. Answering the question why Belarus started investigating the facts of the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War only in the 21st century, the Chairperson of the Council of the Republic explained, “It was in recent years that it became obvious that Nazism outside our country is again raising its head. You see what is happening even in some of our neighbouring countries: history is being rewritten, monuments are being demolished. At the same time, there are wild and completely unfounded accusations against our country. Moreover, there were also attempts to break our statehood. I am deeply convinced that if the President had not stood up for his country in 2020, it is not known how we would live now. However, we have overcome all the challenges. And we will do everything to prevent this from happening, and for this – we will do everything so that historical truth will triumph.”

Will the moratorium on rising prices in our country have an impact on the breadth of the range of goods on the shelves? Natalya Kochanova replied, “Saturation of the domestic market with goods is one of the primary tasks of the Belarusian state. The President set the task of dealing with pricing: the margins on some goods were simply astronomical. Moreover, we saw that even in different regions the price for the same item may vary. Today, everything has been brought to order in this area: prices can rise only for objective reasons, and not based on the desires of market entities.”

The Speaker of the Council of the Republic also drew attention to the wide range and high quality of domestic goods, “Moreover, we went on an experiment: goods of Belarusian manufacturers are currently presented in the famous Stolitsa shopping centre. Now Minsk residents and guests of the capital have learned about domestic products, which sometimes they were not even aware of.”

The conversation also tackled various initiatives of the Belarusian youngsters, the famous project of the Council of the Republic – Train of Memory – issues of education and professional employment of young people in Belarus, as well as their patriotic education and civic development.
