Kochanova: Belarusian People’s Congress to help make important decisions at critical moments

Natalya Kochanova, the Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly, said this when commenting on the bill On Belarusian People's Congress approved by the Council of the Republic today

“Such a form of the people’s rule exists only in Belarus, and it has proven itself for a long time: we have already held six congresses,” Ms. Kochanova noted. “By adopting this law, we are giving the Belarusian People’s Congress the status of a state body, the highest body of the people’s rule. The Council of the Republic members actively participated in the development of this document, and we considered it at a meeting of the expert council at the Council of the Republic, also discussing it with people countrywide. With this in view, I have no doubts in its unanimous adoption.”

According to Ms. Kochanova, the Belarusian People's Congress will enable the country to remain independent and sovereign. “The global events indicate that the world is really very restless, and – for Belarus to develop and live according to its laws as an independent and sovereign country – we should definitely have such a body that will enable us to make important decisions for our people at critical moments,” she stressed.
