Kochanova: Belarus should timely reflect ideological provocations of its enemies

Speaking at the opening of the 10th session of the Upper House of Parliament of the seventh convocation, the Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly, Natalya Kochanova, outlined the priorities for Belarus in the field of international relations: among them is the endeavour to overcome modern challenges through co-operation based on mutual respect, trust and sovereign equality of parties

"Belarus has always been and remains a peace-loving state that values normal good-neighbourly relations and friendship between peoples," Ms. Kochanova noted. “We must timely reflect ideological provocations of our enemies who are trying to position our country as an aggressor. This happened, for example, in relation to a draft resolution on Belarus submitted to the Senate of the US Congress. Unsubstantiated accusations were made there on the basis of outright fakes and misinformation, and the Presidium of the Council of the Republic reacted then with public condemnation, urging American legislators to focus on solving the problems of their people.”

Ms. Kochanova mentioned another example, “During the 14th Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament, convened by the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Tashkent, a delegation of the Council of the Republic voiced a clear position on the need to preserve international co-operation, solidarity and trust to ensure sustainable recovery after the pandemic, the inadmissibility of economic sanctions, pressure and interference in internal affairs, and it also emphasised the importance and relevance of the Belarusian Digital Neighbourhood Belt initiative.”

As noted by Ms. Kochanova, the Council of the Republic members should continue to use all the opportunities of international platforms at various levels to persistently bring Belarus’ position on unacceptability of destabilisation of the situation and on the country’s peaceful and unifying efforts.
