Kochanova at APA session in Baku: demand for predictability, openness and responsibility growing manifold
Belarus is a peace-loving state that pursues a multi-vector foreign policy and strictly adheres to the principles of peace, friendship and the development of good neighbourly relations. At the same time, Minsk develops fraternal and friendly relations with most countries of the world – as stated by Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of Belarus’ National Assembly Natalya Kochanova at the plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), held in Baku.
Noting that the Asian Parliamentary Assembly is one of the most representative international parliamentary organisations and unites dozens of parliaments, Ms. Kochanova emphasised, “The Republic of Belarus has long-standing good relations with the APA member states and shares the principles laid down in the organisation’s charter. We are absolute adherents of its unifying and creative ideas: building a just world order and a multipolar world, strengthening inter-parliamentary co-operation, sharing experience in law-making and exchanging opinions on the regional and global agenda. We aim to promote these ideas through collective efforts.”
According to the Speaker of the Council of the Republic, Belarus is a peace-loving state that pursues a multi-vector foreign policy.
“We strictly adhere to the principles of peace, friendship and the development of good neighbourly relations. The National Assembly of Belarus uses parliamentary diplomacy as an important tool for interstate co-operation on a wide range of issues. We participate in the work of various international organisations in a multilateral format. In 2024, the Republic of Belarus became a full member of SCO and a BRICS partner country. By joining them, we once again confirm our responsible and systematic position on co-operation with all international organisations and associations. Membership in these structures helps to ensure joint security, build economic relations, and mutually enrich the cultural and humanitarian ties of our peoples,” Ms. Kochanova noted.
“We are developing fraternal and friendly relations with most countries of the world. Asia, the Middle East, and Africa have long ceased to be distant territories for our republic. As Belarus’ President Aleksandr Lukashenko has pointed out, we liaise with the countries of these regions systematically, actively and on an equal footing. In today’s world, the demand for predictability, openness, and responsibility not only persists, but also grows manifold. A multipolar world may not be a panacea for all ills, but it will create the necessary balance on the planet and embody the principles of sovereign equality of states. Work in this direction is one of the main tasks of the Belarusian parliamentary diplomacy,” Ms. Kochanova emphasised.
The key events of the official visit of the Belarusian parliamentary delegation headed by Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of Belarus’ National Assembly Natalya Kochanova to the Republic of Azerbaijan on February 18th-20th include participation in the meeting of the APA Executive Council and the 15th APA plenary session: the Role of Parliamentary Diplomacy in Strengthening Multilateral Co-operation in Asia. The issue of granting the Parliament of Belarus observer status in the APA will be considered at these meetings.
